What age groups do you teach?

We offer Taekwondo classes to tots ages 5-6, youth ages 7-12 and to teen/adults 13 and up. Koryo Gumdo classes are offered to ages 13 and up. Adults and children are separated except in our family classes which are held on Saturdays.

How do I begin?

We offer a beginner's Taekwondo program designed to acquaint you with the very basics of Taekwondo. Give us a call or drop by. No appointment necessary to view any of our classes. However, we do ask that you make an appointment to enroll in any of our programs. Give us a call today: 618.345.2953.

When are your classes?

We offer classes Monday thru Friday and on Saturday mornings. Please visit our Programs Page for a complete schedule.

Do I have to be in shape to do this?

No. Our job is to get you in shape. While our classes are challenging, they are designed so that you can work at your own pace, improving your health and fitness levels as you go.

How much does it cost?

Several packages are available, including beginner's programs and family discounts. Please stop by to discuss your goals and learn more about our programs. You will find we offer the highest quality martial arts training with very affordable rates. We're confident we have a program that will fit your budget. We currently offer an Introductory Program which includes 2 weeks of Taewondo classes, 2 classes per week for only $20. If you enroll in one of our regular programs after the 2 weeks, the $20 goes towards your membership. This is a great way to give us a try!

Do you go to tournaments?

Yes. We do provide several opportunities each year for tournament competition, both in Taekwondo and Koryo Gumdo. Sport competition is not required, however. It all really depends on your goals.

What organizations certify your students?

For our color belt Taekwondo students, we certify through the United States National Taekwondo Federation. For our Black Belt students, we certify directly through the Kukkiwon in Seoul, Korea. Our Koryo Gumdo students are certified through the World Koryo Gumdo Association. We are also affliated with the World Taekwondo Federation and USA Taekwondo for all major sporting competitions.

How often are students promoted?

While we do hold regularly scheduled testing for both Taekwondo and Koryo Gumdo students, our students are only promoted to the next belt once they are competent with their existing material. We do not automatically promote after a fixed time period nor without ensuring our students are ready to learn new material.

How long does it take to get a Black Belt?

Earning a Black Belt is a personal journey and the time required will vary from student to student. On average, it takes anywhere from 3.5 to 4 years to earn a Black Belt at our school. We do not offer Black Belt programs as these imply students are guaranteed Black Belts.

How is character education taught?

We do not just talk about character education, but instill it in each and every class. We actively build character by setting challenging goals, having high expectations, and emphasizing hard work; all in a disciplined and respectful environment. Character is developed through challenges, effort, and trial/error.
